I started My Singapore Food in 2015 with the sole aim of preserving heirloom recipes, which are treasured and held dear by you and your family. My personal story begins with my mother, an amazing cook, baker and kueh-making lady. Her cooking was a means to provide for and feed us; it was an essential thing that she did for the family. My mother could not write and could only read simple words, she learnt to cook by feel and memory. When she reached her 70s, she was diagnosed with dementia. I tried to encourage her to cook, and to record the recipes down. But, I was too late, she simply could not remember them. This propelled me to embarked on this journey of documenting heirloom recipes. We share videos of Singapore food, a melting pot of culture, uniquely Singapore. The food that we cook at home, the hawker food that we love, or the local produce that we support, all coming together as your - My Singapore Food.
