The 101 Strings Orchestra was the most successful name in the Alshire label’s history with over 50 million records sold worldwide and has seen notable artists and arrangers such as Les Baxter and Nelson Riddle release albums under the 101 Strings banner. The label also boasts artists such as Irv Cottler, The Bakersfield Five, Dillard Crume & The Soul Rockers, The California Poppy Pickers, The Mustang and Los Norte Americanos. In 1995 Canadian Madacy Music Group acquired the complete Alshire catalog from Al Sherman. Alshire and the 101 Strings Orchestra recordings today are exclusively owned by Countdown Media GmbH, formerly a part of Madacy, and since 2011 a subsidiary of new music company BMG. Countdown Media has been re-releasing the fantastic original albums in an extensive series of digital reissues, bringing back the golden days of the 50s, 60s and 70s, conveying the retro-charm of the time, which is also reflected in the eye-catching artwork.
