Political science is among The Princeton Review list of "Top 10 College Majors" due to the "timely, fascinating and perpetually changing" nature of the discipline. Students majoring in political science gain knowledge of the theory, principles, and practice of politics at all levels of government. The faculty in the political science department offer educational instruction that promotes strong critical thinking, clarity of thought, excellent communication capabilities, and sophisticated research skills. Recently, the department was awarded the 2010-2011 "Outstanding Department in Instruction," by the SHSU College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
