I have loved canning and gardening since I was a little girl from the 60s. My neighbor Veta Souza grew up on a farm and would tell me wonderful stories about life on the farm as a little girl. I stood up on her dining room chair starting at about 5 years old and learned how to can apricots, peaches and plums all summer long. Here in the desert southwest we get to garden year round. In the winter its all about the greens and brassicas. In the summer its all fruiting plants and vegetables. Nothing goes to waste. Now that I'm older with 4 children and 8 grandchildren I'm passing on Vetas' legacy and teaching them how to be self efficient. My Daughter has 1/4 acre with an orchard and garden. She feeds us well. I love teaching all of them about canning and gardening for their families future.
