Afenginn is a Nordic ensemble led by composer Kim Rafael Nyberg. The group creates long-form music built on cycles, movement and large-scale musical architecture. Since forming in Copenhagen in 2002, the group has carved out a distinctive space in Nordic music, creating works that evolve through arcs and transformations rather than traditional song forms. A breakthrough came with OPUS (2016) and the circular, tidal Klingra (2019), featuring Danish String Quartet and Teitur. Klingra is music that moves like interlocking cogs, rising toward cinematic peaks with remarkable clarity. With Movements I (TUTL Records, 2025), Afenginn opens a new chapter: the first part of a 120-min trilogy written for movement, long-form flow and physical listening. Afenginn blends clarinets, strings, brass, mandolin, piano, layered percussion, synthesizers and electronics to create a sound world that is both precise and explosive, contemporary in detail and physical in impact.
