Founded in 2001, Aspen-based nonprofit Aspen International Mountain Foundation (AIMF) promotes sustainable development in mountain environments and communities in Colorado and around the world. AIMF is co-chair of the Steering Committee of the Mountain Partnership and represents members in North and Central America and the Caribbean region. AIMF hosted the Sixth Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership in Aspen, CO on September 26-29, 2022 along with co-hosts, the state of Colorado, the City of Aspen and the Aspen Institute. In 2021, AIMF was granted special consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a highly discretionary designation that enables an organization to engage in a number of ways with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies and with some meetings of the General Assembly. AIMF was instrumental in developing the mountain-related actions within the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and participated in the Paris Agreement.
