SPULU, Oakland native, Tongan root, is a creative mover, storyteller, dance maker, body historian, and interdisciplinary performing artist. He earned his BA in Dance with a focus in Race and Resistance Studies from San Francisco State University and was awarded for his Creativity and Artistic Vision from the School of Theater and Dance. His educational journey led him to work at City College of San Francisco where he helped develop the first Critical Pacific Islander Studies in the United State. SPULU is an honorary member of the Zaccho Dance Theater Company for his world premiere solo Black VS. Blue (2014) in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement in Oakland. His work has been featured at the San Francisco International Hip Hop Dance Festival, American National Dance Festival, and many Asian/Pacific American Festivals, which has appeared in many media and television platforms across the globe.
