Akwaaba I am Adrienne (Esi) Cooke, I have been inspired to create this website “Returnees”. What is a Returnee! A person who returns to a place after a long absence! Africans from the Diaspora who are descendants from our ancestors who were taken away forcibly are returning back to Africa after 400 years. In 2019 over 788,000 Africans from the Diaspora visited Ghana. This was after an invitation from president Nana Akufo-Addo, current president of Ghana lodged a campaign to invite Africans from the diaspora to return to Ghana for the 400th anniversary to mark the 400th anniversary of the beginning of slavery that began in August 1619. So I am telling the story of Returnees by recording activities, individuals returning, organizations and the lives of the after events. Please join me on this exciting adventure to go back to Ghana, Africa.
