For me fly tying is an exciting hobby with few boundaries, but a word of warning. Never listen to the tier who tells you that there is nothing new in fly tying. It is only his lack of imagination and his ignorance of current innovation that produces this dogged attitude. Tie every pattern you can get your hands on old and new. Learn those tricky techniques. Tie whatever your heart desires. Who cares if it has six wings and nine legs? Did you enjoy tying it? Might it catch a fish? We are in the business of fooling fish with an impression of something they might like to eat. To my mind that creative endeavour is only surpassed by the moment when the fish decides to dine! So to all you brothers and sisters of the bobbin, however and whatever you tie, please don't stop.
