After more than twenty years of working creatively but painting less than I wished, I am returning to my love of large-scale abstract painting. A recent trip to Japan renewed that passion. I became deeply inspired by the timeless color harmonies documented in the Color Dictionary by Sanzo Wada, first compiled in 1883 and later expanded by Haishoku Souken (1933–1934) into 348 traditional color combinations. These palettes now guide many of the paintings created on this channel. In my abstract work, I have always been drawn to painting squares. During a visit to Ryōan-ji Temple, I encountered the Tsukubai, a square stone water basin carved with the Zen phrase 吾唯足知 (ware tada taru o shiru), meaning “I only learn to be content” or “I am content with what I am.” This message of balance and contentment now lives within the squares in my paintings.
