Hi! My name is Shaiful Islam, and I've spent 7 years working with and supporting young people around the world — from creators to activists to artists. I've always found it odd when people talk about “online” and “offline” as if they are two different existences Gen Z can lead. Your lives exist in both places at once, powerful and seamless. The content you create, the conversations you have, the friends you make and the safety precautions you take are no less meaningful when they happen online than when they happen off. Safety is one thing that comes up a lot when I talk to people in your generation about how they navigate their social and creative lives on social media. We usually talk about it in terms of offline safety — and building similar reflexive muscles to know when a situation or place is making you feel uncomfortable.
