Founded in 2004, the Western Standard is the successor to Ted Byfield’s Alberta Report which was published from 1973 to 2003. In 2007, the original Western Standard ceased publication but was brought back in 2019 under the new ownership of Western Standard New Media Corporation. Since then, the Western Standard has grown to become the leading editorial voice of Western Canada, employing reporters and columnists in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
