UNICEF works to protect the lives and rights of children in 190 countries around the world. We never give up! ✌ More than 60 years ago, in the wake of World War II, a UNICEF field office was established in Bangkok and made responsible for a region in South Asia then known as East Pakistan. Shortly thereafter, in 1951, the appointment of Dr. Victor Fenn saw UNICEF open its first office in the region’s capital city, Dhaka. The office initially operated from Fenn’s own house, and comprised of just two professional staff and one driver. Over the next 20 years, UNICEF provided mostly supply assistance to what was then East Pakistan, a type of support which enabled the UNICEF logo to reach the remotest villages. Then, having struggled with the new nation through the war of liberation, including an initial period of emergency assistance, UNICEF Bangladesh slowly but surely evolved into a full-fledged development agency, not by talking about it, but by doing the “doable”.
