Arden Kirkland, MSLIS, MFA, is a digital librarian working at the intersection of digital scholarship and instructional technology. Her work in higher education has focused on how college students' active participation in the construction of multimedia digital collections fits at that intersection, especially with regards to representing material culture. That work began years ago with a project to provide online access to a collection of historic artifacts at Vassar College, using the Omeka platform. Her work on the Capability Maturity Model for Research Data Management also reinforced her work to help communities in the Arts and Humanities recognize the value of their research data and make it available for inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional reuse. One such inter-institutional project is HistoricDress.org, for which she has begun to develop "Costume Core," a metadata profile for historic clothing artifacts.
