Maritime Cultural Landscape Symposium, hosted by the Wisconsin Historical Society, was held at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI on 14-15 October 2015. The Conference was sponsored by the National Park Service, NOAA Maritime Heritage Program, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and WI Historic Preservation Office. The focus of this two-day symposium was to explore the concept of Maritime Cultural Landscapes (MCL) and its role in the investigation, evaluation, and management of terrestrial and submerged maritime cultural resources. The overall goal of the symposium was to recommend standard definitions and best practices through the preparation of preliminary guidance materials for incorporating Maritime Cultural Landscapes into National Register evaluations.
