The Center for Applied Game Studies at the Danube University Krems addresses the complex relationship between games and society with a combination of expertises from game-, media- and education studies. In our research we deal with questions like: How do games work and where does our desire to play come from? How do new technologies change the cultural technique of play, and what does this mean for our society? And how can we develop and promote responsible ways of handling a media world increasingly shaped by the idea of games and play? Our courses are closely linked to our research activities and comprise the Master's programs "Game Studies, MA", "Action-oriented Media Pedagogy, MA", "Media Game Pedagogy, MA" as well as an integrative Master's program "Game-based Media & Education, MSc". In addition, a wide range of 'Certified Programs' enables students to focus on a wide variety of topics without the need to complete a full master’s program.
