It’s quite another to tell you I was a drug addict at 12 and a prostitute by 15. Using parallel timelines and themes, “Dear Stephen Michael’s Mother” chronicles my adult search to find my birth mother in the context of my addiction and survival. It’s a story about being lost and finding an unknown family, about struggling through both the emotional and bureaucratic roadblocks of the adoption experience to become who you truly are.
